Confessions of a Constantly Hungry Girl

I am ALWAYS hungry! I seriously don’t know what is happening with my body right now. For those of you that are new around here, or because I’m terrible at mentioning things, I have been following IIFYM for about a month and a half now. I started around mid-December, but with holidays and being home I haven’t been following my macros exactly to the T every day. But since I’ve been back at school (mid-January) I have been pretty consistent with my macros. So I’m about to be 100% raw right now which calls for a DISCLAIMER:

THESE ARE MY MACROS, DON’T TAKE THEM AND MAKE THEM YOUR OWN.

EACH BODY IS UNIQUE AND REQUIRES DIFFERENT MACROS TO FUEL ITSELF.

Okay now that that is over… Since mid-January I have been eating about 1900 calories, broken down into 50% carbs, 25% protein, 25% fat. I was having a really hard time staying within those macros because I was ALWAYS hungry. Seriously I have been drinking my 100oz of water a day, eating my protein but still I am hungry. So I made the choice to up my macros. I used the IIFYM calculator and found out my TDEE which was around 2150. Now remember I am 6 feet tall and workout 5-6 times a week. This girl needs a lot of food to maintain my sanity. So since Feb 1st I have been using those new macros. I broke this ratio down into 50% carbs, 30% protein, 20% fat. I try to get as close to my macros as possible every day. But still I am HUNGRY!

I really don’t know what is wrong with my body. I don’t know if I want to keep feeding it, because it’ll become more than my metabolism can handle. But if I’m still hungry at the end of the night then obviously I’m not eating enough food. Or maybe not enough voluminous food? I really don’t know! Honestly it has been kinda stressful.

Now I must admit I have not been 100% at tracking all my macros. There are some foods I just don’t “count” towards them, like vegetables and sometimes the occasional piece of fruit.  So I’m writing this post of Feb 4. I think that for the week of Feb 5- 11 I am going to track everything! Well except the romaine lettuce, cause that ish is basically water. But I will try my best to track everything else. Hopefully it will give me a better idea of how my body is doing in regards to my hunger vs. how many calories I am eating. Maybe I’ll use one of 1000 notebooks to keep a “hunger journal” to see how I’m doing each day. I’m going to try my best to stick to my 2150 macros until mid-February and then reevaluate.

UPDATE (2/8): So I have been pretty good at tracking all my food for the last few days. Because I have still been hungry I am eating closer to 2300-2400 calories a day but I am still hungry! Honestly I don’t really know what is going on with my body. I have been tracking my weight as best I can and it hasn’t really changed so that means that by TDEE is pretty accurate. I’m hoping that if I continue to follow IIFYM and listen to my body the constant hunger will go away. I will keep you guys updated on how this is going.

Now I must clarify what I mean by always hungry. I mean that I will eat a meal, I eat a lot of little meals throughout the day check out a Full Day of Eating post if your curious, but 1-2 hours later I will be starving again. I feel like these meals are healthy enough and protein packed that this shouldn’t be happening.

Now I’m writing this post, that I know is very controversial, because this is my blog. In a year or two I want to be able to go back and see what I was going through at the time. I am currently in a growing phase, physically and well hopefully mentally, and I want to see what my body can do and where my metabolism is at. I want to assure you guys that this girl is not going to get into unhealthy habits and if you genuinely are worried about me please let me know! I value your guy’s opinion dearly!

Any advice for this constantly hungry girl?

  1. I know feeling over-hungry beyond what I “normally” eat in a day can feel really overwhelming for me, and honoring that hunger can cause anxiety. However, honoring your intuitive hunger is really important, especially if you work out so much. Hunger is your body telling you it needs more fuel. Please take care of yourself, friend!

    1. Thank you and dont worry I am taking care of myself 🙂 I have been honoring my intuitive hunger and making sure I am fueled for my day!

  2. I think you are a perfect example of why IIFYM doesn’t really work. You have been doing this for a few weeks and are still hungry, so if you listen to your body, you should eat (unless this is mindless or boredom eating). Maybe you should get a second opinion on this. If you eat more do you gain weight? Are you losing weight with the current macros? These things might help you figure it out 🙂

    1. Very true, IIFYM is not always 100% and sometimes you’ll have to make changes to get it to work well. I have looked into getting a second opinion on the macros. Thank you for the advice!

  3. I went to see a naturopath, had my genes read and translated (into regular everyday language)
and it turns out that my body was genetically awful with carbs and WAY better with protein.
I also do better, according to my genes, with three large meals a day, and no snacks in between.

Since implementing i’ve felt fuller, and more satisfied, + more energy and better sleep no joke.
Try upping your protein and lowering your carbs! I know this goes against the higher carb approach most people are trying now, but MAYBE you’re genetically meant for less carbs and way more protein, like me!
